Jackson
Parten
was born
and
raised
in San
Antonio,
although
he spent
some
time in
Arkansas
and New
York
City.
Raised
on a
steady
diet of
Beatles,
Cash,
Stones,
Earle,
and
Zevon,
Jackson's
musical
style is
based on
a
diversely
formed
foundation.
His
first
album,
Jackson
Parten,
a
country
record,
was
universally
lauded
by
critics
and
spawned
the Hill
Country
hit
"Smoke 'Em
If You
Got 'Em."
Having
achieved
success
in the
country
genre,
Jackson
could
have
easily
stayed
there
and made
a
comfortable
living,
but his
muse
would
not hear
of it!
Jackson
took his
sound in
a
different
direction
for his
second
record,
The
Sum Of
All
Parts,
which is
decidedly
pop-rockier
than
Jackson
Parten.
Since
that
second
album,
Jackson
has
experimented
with
several
musical
styles,
but he
has now
put
together
a band
that
suits
his
current
frame of
mind,
Jackson
Parten's
Catastrophe.
The
sound
produced
by The
Catastrophe,
which
includes
steel
guitar
and
keyboard,
fits
Jackson's
most
recent
songwriting,
featuring
such
soon-to-be
classics
as
"Companion"
and
"Death
by
Misadventure."
With a
new
album
due out
in 2009,
Jackson
Parten
is
finally
coming
into his
own.
He's
focused
and
sharp --
some who
know
Jackson
may
choose
to read
that as
"more
mature"
-- and
as
crowd-pleasing
as ever.
As fun
and
exciting
as a
Jackson
Parten
live
show is,
though,
real
music
fans
will
hear the
beautiful
melodies
and
stirring
lyrics
and know
they are
in the
presence
of a
musician
who must
eventually,
when all
is said
and
done, be
recognized
as of
one of
Texas'
great
songwriters.
